Beginning therapy is an investment in your wellbeing - a way to pause, reflect, and make meaningful change.
This page outlines session fees, rebates, and payment details so you can plan confidently and focus on what matters most: feeling supported and moving forward.
Session fees
The cost of each 50-minute session is $210, which is below the rate recommended by the Australian Psychological Society.
If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, Medicare will rebate $98.95 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
You do not need a doctor’s referral to book an appointment (unless you plan to claim a Medicare rebate). You’re welcome to arrange a session directly through the enquiry form.
Private clients without a Mental Health Care Plan will be charged the full session fee. If you have private health insurance, you may be eligible for a rebate from your health fund - please check with your provider for details.
Payment
Payment is made by credit or debit card at the time of your appointment via a secure online system.
Cancellation policy
If you need to reschedule or cancel, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice to avoid a fee.
This allows us to offer your appointment time to another client on the waiting list.
If less than 48 hours’ notice is given, or an appointment is missed without notice, the consultation fee may be charged unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Medicare does not cover cancelled appointments.
Medicare rebate for psychology services
Medicare card holders with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from their GP are entitled to a rebate for part of the fee for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
You’ll need to return to your GP for a review and extended referral after the sixth session. Please bring a copy of your current plan to your first appointment.
If you already have a Mental Health Treatment Plan made out to another clinician, it can be transferred - you don’t need a new one.
NDIS participants
Self-managed NDIS participants are welcome at Getting Better Australia.
Psychology sessions can be claimed under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living, using the standard NDIS item for therapeutic supports. Your invoice will include all the information required for claiming.
If you’re self-managing your plan, you simply pay the invoice and then request reimbursement through the NDIS portal.
Private health insurance
Clients without a Mental Health Care Plan cannot claim a Medicare rebate, but you may be eligible for a rebate through your private health fund. We are registered providers with most major funds, including:
Australian Unity · Teachers Health · Australian Health Management (AHM) · MBF · NIB · HCF · Medibank Private
Please check with your fund to confirm eligibility for psychological services.
